How to pick a comp in TFT and read the tier list

A comp is a group of units that activate traits together and revolve around a carry with its items. The TFT Coach tier list brings together the 530 most common comps in 77232 recent Platinum-to-Challenger matches.
How comps are grouped
Each final board is assigned to a comp based on its carry (the unit with the most damage items) and its main trait; groups that share almost all their units are merged. That’s why comps are named “Trait · Carry”.
- Core units: they appear in at least half of that comp’s boards.
- Flex units: they appear less often; you can swap them depending on what you find.
What each tier means
The tier is relative and comes from each comp’s average placement, smoothed so that comps with few games don’t end up at the top by luck: S is the top 15%, A the next 30%, B the following 30% and C the rest. S comps finish top 4 in 69% of their games on average.
Keep in mind that it measures the final board: comps with expensive carries are slightly favored, because they only get fully built in games that are going well.
How to pick yours
- Look at which units and components you have: the comp that fits best will cost you less gold.
- Look at what others are playing: a contested comp performs worse (see scouting).
- Look at the typical final level: it tells you whether to save for level 9 or roll earlier.
- Read “When not to play it” on the comp page before committing.
How TFT Coach helps
The in-game coach does the first two steps for you with what you have on your board, bench and components, and explains why it recommends each comp.
