Scouting in TFT: see what everyone else is playing

Scouting means looking at the other players’ boards. In TFT everyone shares the same pool of copies for each unit, so what others play changes what’s best for you to play.
What to look for
- Who’s playing your units. If others are going for the same carry, each copy will be harder to find.
- What items they have. It tells you which comps they might be building towards.
- Their level and health. It helps you tell whether they’re going to level up or roll, and who’s close to dying.
- Their positioning. So you can place your units against the opponent you’re facing (see positioning).
When to do it
Above all, at the moments when you’re making a big decision: before committing to a comp, before spending a lot of gold rolling and before an important fight.
Contested comps
When two or more players go for the same comp, they split the copies and items they’re looking for. Often it’s better to pivot early into a similar comp than to fight over the same units. Comp pages show related comps that share core units and are useful for exactly that.
How TFT Coach helps
TFT Coach doesn’t look at your opponents during the game (Riot’s rules don’t allow it): you do the scouting yourself in game. Afterwards, in My matches, the analysis checks how many opponents played a good chunk of your comp’s core units and, if it was two or more, warns you that it was contested.
